Most Anticipated Reads of 2024

Posted on

The only goal in the new year I really set is a reading goal! Since I didn’t hit 90 in 2023, I’m going to keep that same goal for 2024 and there are some books I’m really excited to read in the new year. The next Sarah J. Maas installment in the Crescent City series?? Yes, please!

Some of these titles are hotly anticipated 2024 releases that are sure to top the bestseller list and others might be under the radar reads. There are a few non-fiction titles to check out in 2024 too because we like to mix it up from time to time and be well rounded readers!

Get ready to add some of these to your TBR pile – here are twelve of my most anticipated reads of 2024.

House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J. Maas

Book 3 in the Crescent City series, this fantasy adventure finds the fates of Hunt, Bryce and their universe hanging in the balance.

Book two ended with a HUGE twist and I can’t wait to jump back into this world and series. This one should count as two books! Coming in at a whopping 800+ pages, I could get an advanced e-reader copy of this title, but opted to wait for a physical book so I don’t have to read all that on a device.

Release date: January 30, 2024.

Argylle by Elly Conway

A spy thriller from an unknown author (unlikely rumored to be Taylor Swift), this novel is a tie in with the movie of the same title. Not much is known about Argylle, but it has some heavy conspiracy theories surrounding it and a mysterious author bio, so my interest is piqued.

Release date: January 4, 2024.

Daughter of Mine by Megan Miranda

Hazel Sharp unexpectedly returns to her hometown. As a drought plague’s the town, the lake begins to dry up, revealing some long hidden secrets that may help solve her mother’s death.

Megan Miranda usually pens a solid mystery and I’m waiting on the edge of my seat for this one to drop!

Release date: April 9, 2024.

End of Story by A.J. Finn

From Goodreads: “Twenty years earlier—on New Year’s Eve 1999—Sebastian’s first wife and teenaged son vanished from different locations, never to be seen again. Did the perfect crime writer commit the perfect crime? And why has he emerged from seclusion, two decades later, to allow a stranger to dig into his past?”

The author of “The Woman in the Window” returns with his follow up novel. I am curious if this will be his final book – if you aren’t aware of all the strange controversy surrounding this author, this piece will tell you everything you need to know.

Release date: February 20, 2024.

Middle of the Night by Riley Sager

The summer Ethan was ten, he and his best friend Billy camped out in a tent his backyard like most kids do. But when Ethan woke up, Billy was gone and the tent had been slashed through one side with a knife.

Now, thirty years later, Ethan is back in his hometown and keeps seeing signs Billy might not really be dead.

Riley Sager never disappoints, so big expectations for this one!

The Summer Pact by Emily Giffin

After a tragedy strikes, a college pact brings together a group of friends from all different parts of the country. The bond will last well beyond their college years and nearly a decade later when one of the women is in need of support, the others will come running.

The likely beach read of the summer, Emily Giffin returns with her signature chic lit style.

Release date: July 9, 2024.

The Bright Sword by Lev Grossman

From Goodreads: “The first major Arthurian epic of the new millennium, The Bright Sword is steeped in tradition, full of duels and quests, battles and tournaments, magic swords and Fisher Kings. It also sheds a fresh light on Arthur’s Britain, a diverse, complex nation struggling to come to terms with its bloody history. “

To say I’m ecstatic about this title would be an understatement. Lev Grossman wrote one of my favorite fantasy series of all time: “The Magicians.” My expectations are very high for this one!

Release date: July 16, 2023

A deep dive into the power and influence of Evangelical culture on politics and religion. Journalism Sarah McCammon share personal reflection and examines the religion movement that’s attached itself to right-wing politics.

This one sounds really interesting to me as someone who doesn’t often pick up non-fiction.

Release date: March 19, 2024.

The Last Days of the Midnight Ramblers by Sarah Tomlinson

From Goodreads: “Three Rock & Roll icons. Two explosive tell-all memoirs. One ghostwriter caught in the middle.”

The author is a former music journalist and has ghost written several New York Times bestseller. “Midnight Ramblers” sounds perfect for fans of “Daisy Jones and the Six.”

Release date: February 13, 2024.

She’s Not Sorry by Mary Kubica

An overworked ICU nurse is on shift when a coma patient who attempted suicide is brought in with significant brain damage. Meghan Michaels initially doesn’t want to get to close to the patient, but as new details come to light, it’s beginning to look like the patient might have been pushed off a bridge instead of jumping.

Mary Kubica usually knows how to deliver with the suspense; hopefully this one will be no exception!

Release date: April 2, 2024.

Beastly Beauty by Jennifer Donnelly

This fractured fairy tale reimagines the French story of Beauty and the Beast, but with a gender swap! What if Belle had been the beast instead?

This is Jennifer Donnelly’s third reimagined fairy tale and I have full confidence in her excellent storytelling that this tale will be just as good as the story we all know and love.

Release date: May 7, 2024.

Slow Dance by Rainbow Rowell

Most of the plot seems to be under wraps, but it’s been a decade since Rainbow Rowell has written a novel for adults and I am so excited!

From her publisher’s web site:
Slow Dance tells the humorous and heartbreaking love story of best friends Shiloh and Cary from their inseparable teen years to their far-flung adulthoods as they try to figure out what their relationship is, where it went wrong, and how to finally make it right.”
