Shop Local! Holiday Gift Guide

Posted on

It’s hard to believe that it’s already time to start shopping for holiday gifts – where did the year go??
I’ve already started my Christmas gift shopping and wanted to share a few small businesses I love to support when looking for a unique item or meaningful gift.

Maple Lane Market
Based in Carmel, Indiana, Maple Lane Market specializes in carrying unique items crafted by small, local, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ makers. You’ll find a variety of goods from clothing, to blankets, stickers, mugs and her carefully curated gift boxes.

Swifties will LOVE her Taylor’s Version box, which comes in four different options and price points. She also carries a holiday gift box, a standard gift box, sticker packs, a homebody edition and a pride edition. Cat lovers and bookworms are also likely to find something in her shop!

Moxy House

Moxy House carries an eclectic variety of modern home goods – you’ll find everything from pillows, kitchen and dining decor to fun tote bags you can use on your grocery or library run. If you’re a fan of Anthropologie or World Market, but want something that’s a little more budget friendly, this is a great shop for you.

Shop with them online or look for special pop-ups in the Indianapolis area!

Shop Gina Celeste

Shop Gina Celeste is an online boutique specializing in women’s fashion. If you know a trendy lady in your life, a gift card or something from her boutique makes a great holiday gift! Shop Gina Celeste is a size-inclusive boutique with sizes ranging from S – 3X in all the designs they bring in.

She’s certain to have some great Black Friday doorbusters and sales as well as Cyber Monday discounts, so be sure to follow her social media channels for more information about those deals.

Grounded Plant and Floral

A wonderful botanical shop with a huge variety of plants, pots and accessories. Grounded Plant and Floral recently opened up in their new space in the renovated Stutz Building (which you should also check out if you are local). I love that each plant they sell has a little information card that comes with it and they also note if the plant is pet-friendly, which is a must in my 3 cat household!

Staff are extremely knowledgeable and will answer any questions you have about plants you already own or are thinking about adding to your collection.

Independent Bookstores

Indianapolis and the surrounding areas have a flourishing local bookstore scene. Many new spots have popped up in the last year, like Tomorrow Bookstore, Loudmouth Books and Dream Palace Books. You also can’t go wrong with Wild Geese Bookshop (my personal favorite), Naughty Dog Books in Nashville, Indiana or MacArthur Books in Carmel.
All of these Indiana based bookstores will ship nationwide, so I’d encourage you to order through them if you don’t have a local bookstore to support in your town!

Wild Things Leather Goods

This Lafayette, Indiana based small business features hand crafted leather goods ranging from bags to clutches to earrings, bracelets and accessories. Sarah, the owner, locally sources all her supplies and creates these gorgeous quality pieces all while raising 8 children and homeschooling them! She’ll have sales on Black Friday and all throughout that weekend as well a site wide discount and special free gifts with purchases of a certain threshold.

The vision for Wild Things Leather began as a way to encourage outdoor adventure in families, but has evolved into a full line of beautiful vegetable tanned leather goods. Wild Things can be found online or in a few brick-and-mortar stores in the Midwest.

Hopefully I’ve given you some new ideas for your holiday shopping as well as highlighted some local businesses you may not have heard about before. Happy holiday shopping season!
